I agree the original Nightlight books were problematic in many ways. There are a lot of interesting elements, but those seem to be the parts that are most glossed over and treated as inconsequential when set alongside the 'romantic' narrative the author is trying to put forward. I think you achieved a much more engaging balance of character driven drama and supernatural elements. And I'm a fan of very descriptive work so I agree with you on the prose, too.
